was i retarded to buy this?? February 14, 2006 i got this game one day hearing mixed reviews. it was only 19.99 so i thought hey it cant be that bad holding on to its price for so long. i was crazy. at first u like it because hey, its c.t.h.d. right? but you start to think as u progress that it is nothing like the movie. the missions have to have been made as an insult. the blocking system is ok but there is one combo block for every class of weapon. then u dont keep the weapons that u have in one lv. that is so annoying. then worst of all. u cant attack in the air!! when u glide u go sooooo slowly its crazy!!!
A horrible game with one redeeming feature. May 18, 2004 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
I have played a LOT of games.. so needless to say I have played my fair share of bad ones and this one takes the cake, as far back as my memory serves me anyway. As usual, the commercial license makes it feel cheap.. trying to stick to the movie exactly except with bad graphics, poor sound and lousy camera work.. the story segments were so bad I found them to be a complete waste of time.. would much rather watch the movie again. Nothing about this game feels polished.. bland textures and level design that seem to be inspired by a cardboard box. Of course.. some of the most fun games to play hide under these shortcommings as well, which I was sure would be the case.. until I got into my first battle. Now here is the good news.. the blocking, while easy, is the most fun you'll ever have defending yurself in a fighting game. You press the block button repeatedly, timed with the enemy's combo attacks, and watch your character do all the crazy dodging from the film.. then you go to strike back and are completely dissapointed with your display of kung-fu lameness. Its a "3 hit combo over and over hack'n'slash" like so many before it.. except possibly worse than most. Also worth noting is that running up walls doesn't work on all walls and nor is it obvious which ones should and shouldn't work. Then when you do get it to work you realize it isn't near as cool as in the movie. Just steer clear of this game completely.
You'll be dismayed at how poor it actually is... February 9, 2004 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I usually steer clear of movie tie-in titles because they always seem second rate at best. However I am such a fan of CTHD that I couldn't resist buying it.I shouldn't have. Apparently they spent a long time developing this title. I wonder how they spent their time? Its completely half baked. The gameplay for the most part consists of running around a handful of dull samey backgrounds monotonously hacking at crowds of near identical and unchallenging foes. there is really no skill involved in the combat and I can't imagine how inept you would have to be to be defeated by the hordes of cloned, pony-tailed minions you have to laboriously slice through. There is practically no change in technique or skill required from the first screen of the game until the end. In fact the only way you can really die in this game is because of the many cheap instant-death moments where you have to use the sketchy movement controls to jump onto ledges which you often can't even see because of the terrible, terrible viewing angles in this game. One other reviewer mentioned that the bad view angle was the worst thing about the game. Although there are many bad points to choose from he is surely right. You often have to walk or jump in directions without being able to see where you going at all. Of course this often leads you straight of a cliff and instant game over. Infuriating . You also often have to fight enemies that you can't actually see. It's ridiculous. So just to recap, I thoroughly recommend this game to anyone who likes grinding, mind-nimbing monotony culminating in utter incredulous frustration. Enjoy.
its cool but it could be a liitle better January 21, 2004 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
This game was ok but it could be better like the martal arts theme. It should be a little more like the enter the matrix fight controlls, execpt more moves. Also the jumping float should go diagnal foreward so it can get as close to as much distance a the movie (building to build at least. But no game is perfect and for a not-pefect game like every other not-pefect game for ps2 it is a must play.
