SEE IF YOU HAVE ENOUGH RYTHM TO KEEP THE BEAT WITH EVERYONES FAVORITE RAPPIN PUPPY, NEW LEVELS NEW SONGS

Amazon.com Review
Released in November 1997, the original PaRappa the Rapper was lauded for its simple gameplay and unique setting. One of the first rhythm games to hit the American market, it required gamers to match onscreen commands a la Simon Says. Its accessible gameplay, combined with an offbeat story (a rapping canine trying to win the heart of a flower), songs, and characters made it a hit. Now in PaRappa the Rapper 2, Sony brings back its old dog to the PS2, but doesn't bother to teach him new tricks. It's a fun but short game that anyone can play. However, fans of the original may be disappointed that Sony hasn't advanced the series much in the last four years (28 in dog years).

This time around PaRappa must stop the evil Noodle Syndicate that's turning all the food in the world into noodles. The wacky story unfolds in Rodney Greenblat's unique visual style. The playful graphics are 2-D with heavy cel shading, but aren't much of an advancement from the original. It would have been nice if Greenblat had created a 3-D version of PaRappa. Likewise, the gameplay is virtually identical to the original. Although there is a two-player mode that adds replay value, players can easily beat the eight levels in single-player mode in fewer than four hours. Perhaps the biggest disappointment is the game's music; although cute, the game's tunes aren't nearly as memorable as those in the original. Still, players new to the series will find the game charming. Fans of the original are bound to be a bit disappointed. --Raymond M. Padilla

Pros:

  • Cheerful graphics style
  • Simple gameplay
  • Humorous songs
Cons:
  • Graphics and gameplay aren't too different from the original PS One version
  • Extremely short
  • Songs aren't as memorable as in the original

Amazon.com Product Description
You gotta' do what? You gotta' believe that he's back! See if you have enough rhythm to keep the beat with everyone's favorite rappin' puppy. Join PaRappa and a cast of characters old and new on a mission of the greatest importance: to prevent the Evil Noodle Syndicate from turning everything into noodles. Dance along with the foot-stomping tunes and catchy lyrics created by musician Masaya Matsuura, the talent behind the original PaRappa the Rapper. As in the original game, the graphics were created by New York artist Rodney Greenblat. The title includes guest appearances by Lammy and her band MilkCan, plus the ultimate rapping sensei, Chop Chop Master Onion. The multiplayer mode allows two rapping disciples to square off, while the practice mode lets you learn how to get your beat on.

4 out of 5 stars I don't get it...   September 28, 2008
I don't see why this game is getting such a low score. In my honest opinon, I thought the was the best game of the Parappa series (Including Um Jammer Lammy). My only problem is getting a COOL rating in this game. It's extremely difficult. Sometimes, you have to be lucky. Mataining COOL is also very difficult.

Graphics are stunning and music is excellent. Voice casting is great even with the different voice actors of Lammy, Sunny, and Katy. Parappa just sounded adorable. In this game he seems to have a quirk and a very slight southern accent when he raps while in the first one, he sounds almost monotone.

I have a theory. People are most likely rating this 2-3 stars because the game is too short. Okay, fair enough. I will have to admit this game IS a tad short. 10 levels would've been good. But look at Parappa the Rapper for the Playstation. It's even shorter! Plus, in this game, there's a battle mode, 2 player mode and different levels with different colored hats. Problem is with this-you can't go back to the easier levels.

Definately buy this game!!!

5 out of 5 stars MY IDEAS for PaRappa the Rapper 3   January 22, 2006
2 out of 15 found this review helpful

Here are MY ideas for the 3rd. (I'm a big PaRappa fan too!)

.For the upcoming PlayStation 3, and PSP
.About 50 levels, and 5 Bonus-Rappin' stages
.If you get an "COOL" Ranking in all the levels (exepet for the last), You will play an alternate ending with Ludicris rappin' "Pimpin' all over the World" and unlock Ludicris as a playable charecter if you beat it.
.For 8 players
.3 modes, Story Mode, VS. Mode, and Co-op Mode.

That's in my head.

4 out of 5 stars Great game,But here is some tips for the next sequel   October 30, 2005
I'm a die-hard PaRappa fan.I love his games including this one.Forget what the others say,P.T.R2 is a great game, though it was a little short and needed some other stuff. So here is what I would do for PaRappa the Rapper 3.
1-A new bonus level.the karate one was cool and all,but picture this,A dance level with PaRappa(like dance dance revolution) and control him for bonus points.
2-A supervillan.I would like to see something like what you did in UmJammer Lammy, with Rammy and put in a dark form of PaRappa. Then have them do a Battle Rap.
3-More unlockable stuff like some different costumes or music videos.Throw us a bone or something!
4-More playable characters. You had PaRappa unlockable in UJL.Return the favor.I like playing as PaRappa, but here is a idea. Why not add Sunny Funny(PaRappa's girlfriend)as a playable character. That would get more girls to play. Also,(some of u may think I'm insane but I don't care!)I think she is HOT!There I said it and I'm glad.
Think of me, the die-hard fan, when you're playing PaRappa 3!

THis is probably the worst video game of all time!!!! The visuals are horrible and 2-D on PS2 does not look good! The Songs were very Odd , and the stupid songs are stuck in my head!
I origianally thought that this game was going to be a fun button mashing game, I didn't.. I beat in in 2 hours. So unless you are around 3 to 7 years old.....
DO NOT PLAY THIS GAME
AND DEFINETLY DON'T BUY IT!
