Product Description
In Metal Slug 4 you'll take the battle to the air, sea and land as you once again battle Morden's forces. In the year 20XX, a cyber-terrorist group has struck out at the world by unleashing a computer virus to hijack the world's militaries. You'll fight to stop the distribution of the virus before it's too late. Then move on to Metal Slug 5, where the secrets of next-generation Metal Slug technology have been stolen. Lead your team into the "Corridor Of Fire" to recover the secrets and destroy the paramilitary syndicate known as the Ptolemaic Army.

3 out of 5 stars Kinda fun   January 27, 2008
This game is kinda fun. You can continue as many times as you want but when it saves you can only play the level and it does'nt go on to the next level. So if you wanna win the game you always have to start from the beginning and continue untill you beat the game. Otherwise the save levels can be played but you don't move on to the next level unless you start from the beginning and keep continuing.

5 out of 5 stars REALLY GREAT!!   July 14, 2006
I have a confession to make. I'm only reviewing the games separately so I don't have the compilation. But enough chit-chat.

MS4: Awesome! I like the re-hashes (yeah, you heard me). New characters Trevor and Nadia replace Eri and Tarma who instead make lots of cameos. Level 5 is the best because of the vehicles and the hadouken prisoner. Also there's the dual machinegun, a new weapon which is blinking cool!

MS5: Don't get me wrong, I like this game, BUT NEW ENEMIES?!? REPLACING THE OLD ONES?!? HARDLY ANY OLD THINGS?? That's why I give this a 4 on fun. Other than that the game is good (well ports actually); it introduces (behold) THE SLUG GUNNER!

Enjoy this even if you happen not to like one of the above or object to my comments.

5 out of 5 stars Gotta love the Slug   May 28, 2006
SNK's long running arcade 2-D side scrolling action epic Metal Slug has never disappointed it's fans, and this collection continues that tradition. Metal Slug 4 & 5 features both games and allows you to play as Marco and company and take on a relentless horde of advancing enemies, tanks, and other surprises. The action is as fast as ever, and both games are more excellent entry's in the long running series. The character sprites are nicely animated, and even though both games look alike, you'll rarely encounter a modern 2-D game that looks like this, despite a sometimes faded look to some of the levels and backgrouns. The games are as difficult as ever, so for long time Metal Slug fans, you already know what to expect here. Young gamers today who missed out on classic action packed 2-D masterpieces like the Metal Slug games or Contra won't fully appreciate what Metal Slug 4 & 5 have to offer, but for long time fans of the series, retro gamers, or lovers of 2-D shooters, consier this a must own.

This version is the arcade convertion to the PS2 and this is one of the greatest titles, I know I know is to the same, cause yo have unlimited continues, but believe me... the 2 games are the best that there is for arcade games, after Marvel vs Capcom 2.... well hope this review helps someone!

4 out of 5 stars Quick Play but Mindlessly Fun   August 21, 2005

With this combo pack, you get two separate DVDs with two separate games on them. One is Metal Slug 4, and the second is the sequel, Metal Slug 5.

First, it's important to remember that neither of these games are "current". They're old school. That means you're playing side scrollers with blocky graphics. It's actually amazing how well they could do design work with those blocks of shape and color! The sounds are also pretty basic, but do a good job of drawing you into the action.

In Metal Slug 4, you move along the path as one of four heroes, blasting away at enemies with guns, grenades, flamethrowers and more. In Metal Slug 5, you also get 4 characters to choose from. In both cases the choices are 2 girls or 2 guys, which is pretty amazing for "ancient gaming" :)

The graphics are slightly improved in Metal Slug 5, and you get some new enemies, but really it's a continuation of the same gameplay and graphic style.

Because these were arcade games, you get a "continue" when you die, meaning you can just restart there and keep going. You don't even have to pump in quarters! We were able to blast through Metal Slug 4 in 45 minutes, and Metal Slug 5 in 30 minutes. In the arcade, the test was to do it all in one long swoop, not to burn $1000 in quarters with continues. So if you really want to test your skills, tell yourself not to use continues. Restart from the beginning, try again and see how well you do. That will help you really tune your reflexes and give you a longer lasting thrill out of playing.

Not an epic storytelling by any stretch of the imagination, but a fun way to mindlessly burn off stress after a rough day at work or school!
