Product Description
Technic Beat allows players to actually create, alter and dance on screen to their own music. The game features tunes from some of Namco's most popular games. In Technic Beat, players listen to music represented in the game by radiating concentric rings of sound. Picking up the beat, they dance into the middle of the rings and try to "catch" the music. If successful, they achieve the power to manipulate the sound rings and create entirely new music. As players progress and gain skill they are re

4 out of 5 stars Technic Beat!   January 4, 2009
This is a great game. It's definitely outside of the limits of a "regular" rhythm game. It's unique-ness makes it very enjoyable, and all of the songs are customizable to an extent in gameplay (you can change the pitch of beats, mix them together, etc.) I enjoy playing it, however, I never find myself playing it for too long all at once.
I definitely recommend this game, but I'm not sure about the $47.99 pricetag. I got my copy for only $15.

This game got panned by most critics as being too weird and offbeat for an american audience.
But if you are someone like me who doesn't mind things being a little weird and "Japanesque" then you shouldn't mind this game either.
You don't really get to make your own songs but you play notes in existing songs and get to modify the way they sound or come out a bit. If done well you can get a really nice sounding song that is very enjoyable.
This game is generally lumped in with "rythem" games but I don't think it quite fits in with this catagory.
Whereas other rythem games have a static marker and various beats coming towards it that must be pressed at a certain time, in Technique Beat you have a character that runs around the screen trying to race from beat to beat. If the character is fast enough they can also move beats around to create new mixes and chains.
The system used is much more intuitive and freeform than most rythem games but the big advantage is that those of us with no rythem whatsoever can really play and enjoy this game because it is based more on visual cues rather than audio ones.
Even though the graphics and presentation won't astound you it deserves to be added to your collection as a little gem that was overlooked and underated.
There's no reason not to with the low price tag on it, too. (I picked it up for $15- can't beat that on a new game)
