4 out of 5 stars not frequency - but close   January 19, 2007
i purchased both this game and its brother, frequency as gifts for friends because i knew how many hours of fun and addiction they both gave me. while this game shares many similarities with frequency it possesses a broader range of music (as opposed to mainly techno/electronic) which some may like or dislike.

on a game play level, amplitude abandons the 8 track circle for more of a shallow curve which provides a more "Guitar Hero x 8" feel. however, other than additional powerups, the only real difference worth noting is that amplitude makes you run the tutorial, with no way of blasting through it, to me, the forced 5 minutes of blah blah blah seemed like forever.

granted, if you've never played amplitude or frequency before, your best off running through it regardless

5 out of 5 stars The Best Replay Value of Any Game EVER!!!   August 15, 2006

Amplitude is an exellent game. I was introduced to it a few years ago and I still play it once or twice a week. With a total of 5 difficulty levels this game never gets old. Mind you the GAME never gets old, but the songs do. That is my only compaint with amplitude. Other then that this game is awsome.
Solo and multiplayer modes are fun and always challenging. It takes a little while to get your chops down but as soon as you understand how the game works its all fun from there. Get your buddys together and push eachother everytime you play. Some people are better then others, some are still learning, but everyone can appreciate the skill it takes to play amplitude.
I would compare it to DDR or Guitar Hero, where you can really show your moves but in the privacy of your own home, and without haveing to buy an expensive controller to go along with the game. This game also truley proves that the Hand is faster then the Eye. I still find myself in awe watching people play.
Suggestion: take a break from amplitude every few hours to avoid brain anerisms. Although the back grounds and lighting of this game are trippy, and almost hypnotic to those around you who are watching, the actual player never even looks at the background. I can't even really explain it, once you are good at amplitude you are in a whole other world when you play. Please be considerate of those around you at a party while playing. Amplitude will take the life out of a party because no one can take their eyes off of it, and since the truley funnest way to play is with one player every one else kinda gets shut out.
This game has the best replay value of any game I have ever played. With its difficulty levels, bosses, and bonus bosses, few games can match amplitude. Just when you think you have figured it out, it throws another wrench in your machine. Let me tell you somthing, the difficulty level Insane is just that INSANE!!! Don't just stop playing after you beat it on Normal, if you think that is amplitude you are wrong my friend. As soon as you can bust out a 2000 plus score on I am Hated by Slipknot on Insane, then you know amplitude. I highly recomend this game, it should be in every true gamers collection, and at a price of 20 bucks, who can beat it?

5 out of 5 stars Top notch fun! One of the best music videogames I've played in a long time!   July 3, 2006

Whoa! My son is blowing my mind with this game! He is only 5, yet, he is playing the "easy" mode with me, and not missing any beats! And he taught me how to use the special energy boosts. Talk about a trip! He even made it past several stages and we unlocked the David Bowie song! That song is one of the best David Bowie songs I've heard in a long time!

I highly recommend this game. Some folks have compared this to the first installment of this series, Frequency, but it is heads and shoulders above any thing before it! Very innovative and very fun!

5 out of 5 stars Perfect, Perfect, Perfect!   April 18, 2006
I've been a long-time fan of the "Beatmania"/"Hip Hop Mania" arcade series. I crave music games, and there have never been enough good ones. "Parappa the Rapper" more or less defined the genre, but I didn't find it terribly satisfying.

Then Harmonix brought us "Frequency", and it was very interesting. Yet something intangible was missing from the gameplay.

Then came Amplitude, a sequel to Frequency. Perfect execution. Smashing graphics. Great songs. Easy for new players. Unbelievably challenging for experienced players. Multiplayer modes (both online and offline) are fabulous. This game is serious, unique fun.

Maybe you're holding out hope for a music-oriented game that doesn't leave you disappointed. Or maybe you've tried "Guitar Hero", developed by the same brilliant folks, and want more of the same sort of genius. Or maybe you're just looking for something different. If this describes you, look no further. Buy this game now!
